SMMT WELCOMES GOV’T STRATEGY FOR LOW CARBON FUTURE

The Society of Motor Manufacturer and Traders (SMMT) has welcomed the Government’s plans to cut transport emissions by 14% over the next decade. The Government announced within the Low Carbon Transport Plan that overall CO2 emissions should reduce by 34% by 2020 and at least 80% by 2050.

Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, commented as follows on the White Paper;” The UK motor industry has made significant progress in cutting CO2 emissions but greater achievements can be made in the short, medium and long-term by pursuing a portolio of technologies, including traditional petrol and diesel engines right through to hydrogen fuel cell and electric vehicles”.
