SMMT reports on November car registration numbers
The SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders) has published the November 2009 car registration numbers. November numbers were up 57.6%, on the weak 2008 numbers, to 158,082 units.
However year to date registrations were down 8.8% at 1,844,063 units but the SMMT expects the full year market to exceed 1.975 million units. The car scrappage scheme accounted for 21.6% of all new car registrations in November with sales to private customers up 141.2%.
Paul Everitt, chief executive of the SMMT said,”The increase in new car registrations in November reflects the positive impact of the Scrappage Incentive Scheme, customers avoiding the VAT increase in January and the very difficult conditions we experienced a year ago”.
