Outlander Juro

Mitsubishi Motors (UK) has announced the details of their new face-lifted Outlander crossover which offers new features like the twin-clutch Sports Shift Transmission (SST). The first model in the range to be launched is a Special Edition variant called the Juro, which will be out in July.

The new exterior features a “Jet-Fighter” grille and comes into line with the family face seen in the Lancer Evolution, Lancer and Colt. The crossover also gets a new front skid plate, new side sill garnish, colour keyed door mirror and new chrome bezels for the front fog lamps.

Outlander Juro

New technical features include the twin-clutch SST automatic transmission (except the Equippe), hill-start assist, upgraded ETACS (Electric Time and Alarm Control System) and ESS (Emergency Stop signal System). The new Juro specification is based on the current Warrior “spec” and includes a 2.2-litre diesel engine, choice of manual or SST auto, leather seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass and metallic paint as standard.

If you are opting for Mitsubishi non-maintenance contract hire leasing on the new Juro, Mitsubishi is offering for just £315 (including VAT), a Mitsubishi Service Plan which gives you three years and 37,500 miles servicing cover. The balance of the Outlander range will go on sale in October and the line-up is being simplified to include the Equippe,Warrior and Elegance models in the range.

Fiesta upgraded

The new Ford Fiesta range has been updated with safety, technology and powertrains upgrades to keeps itself as the UK’s number one favourite car. All new Fiestas will now have Electronic Stability Programme as standard, which previously was a cost option at £300.

If you choose the Studio series you will now get heated door mirrors and an in-car entertainment bonus of remote steering-controls, aux-in jack and two additional speakers. Titanium models now have Bluetooth and USB connection as standard (worth £200) and a new colour called Ink Blue is also available, across all models in the range.

The new Euro Stage V emission levels are also updated with diesel particulate filters, including the 98g/km CO2 ECOnetic plus diesel power increases by 5PS to 95PS on the 1.6-litre TCDi with DPF. The 1.4-litre TDCI with DPF is out in August and sees power increase to 70PS.

Three petrol engines in the range also see reductions in CO2 emissions as follows;

• The 1.25-litre 82PS reduces by 4g to 129g/km
• The 1.6-litre 95PS drops by 3g to 107g/km
• Finally the 16-litre Ti-VCT 120PS falls by 5g to 134g/km

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has launched the 15th edition of their guide for international road transport operators, which guides you through all the confusing regulations for countries in the EU and beyond.

The new 2010 edition includes updated information on public holidays, weekend lorry bans and toll prices, plus other essential facts for commercial fleet operators. The list of countries covered has been expanded with further information on travel advice, ferry service information, advice on stowaways, cabotage requirements and attestation letters.

Fiesta S1600

Ford has launched a new fast car to their range with the eye-catching Ford Fiesta S1600, which is based on the popular Fiesta Zetec-S. In addition to alloy pedals and Quickclear windscreen, the S1600 interior adds heated, stitched leather sports seats with standard side-airbags, leather steering wheel, handbrake cover and gearknob, plus Motorsport-branded floor mats and scuff plates.

Outside the body-styling kit includes a new front bumper with flared lowered valence panel, extended side skirts, large rear spoiler and rear diffuser, with 17-inch alloy wheels (16-inch on the diesel). The car is available in Frozen White or Performance Blue, with contrasting motorsport stripes. Powered by a 1.6-litre 120PS Duratec Ti-VCT petrol engine or a 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi engines with 95PS, the car follows in the tradition of the Ford Fiesta XR2. Only 650 models will be made so if you want one you need to be quick.

£4,600 taxi fare

A cab driver from Northampton, drove his Hyundai i800 MPV all the way to Barcelona to collect some stranded holiday-makers, following the recent volcanic ash disruption. The eight seater MPV picked up six passengers and their luggage and drove them all the way back to the UK.

Although the meter in the cab said £4,600, the driver and owner Garry Smith, had already agreed the fare of £1,850 and the Hyundai i800 was perfect for the job. Garry said, “We got the call at 9.30am on Tuesday and were on the road within an hour to collect four people. I took my son Ben so we could share the driving and booked the Eurotunnel crossing on route”.

Stopping only to change drivers every few hours, re-fuel and to answer the call of nature, the Hyundai i800 arrived on Wednesday morning. When the four passengers saw how huge the i800 was they asked if two more could jump in.

Moving Motor Show

This year’s 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed will now  have a one-day extension called the “Moving Motor Show” where new car buyers can preview a selection of models and even try them out, (strictly at the invitation of the car manufacturers attending). Most sectors of the new car market will be represented at the Moving Motor Show on Thursday the 1st July, from economy hatchbacks to MPVs, family saloons to SUVs and prestige limousines to supercars.

Manufacturers who have confirmed attendance include Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Jaguar, BMW, Abarth, Morgan, Volvo, Mazda, Rolls-Royce, Ford, Nissan and Alpina. The Festival of Speed attracts over 150,000 visitors every year over the three days and the cars from the manufacturers above will undertake hundreds of runs on a special evaluation route.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class

Mercedes-Benz is bringing back the Mercedes-Benz G-Class which is set to return to the UK in the Autumn. This exclusive off-road, 4×4 SUV, has been around for over 30 years and has a timeless look that really stands out from the crowd.

When the vehicle returns you will be able to choose from the G 350 CDI which produces 221 hp and returns 25.7 mpg, or the G55 AMG Kompressor which offers 500 hp and a 0-62mph time of just 5.5 seconds.
