Citroen Berlingo

The Citroen Berlingo LCV has just gained the accolade of the Institute of Transport Management’s (ITM’s) ‘Best LCV 2012’ award. The ITM’s key criteria for choosing the award winner meant a van had to, “embody perennially important qualities such as reliability, cost-effectiveness and durability. It is because of this that the Institute of Transport Management has named the Citroen Berlingo the ‘Best LCV 2012’.”

The ITM’s judges were very impressed with the Citroen Berlingo and said, “Businesses are looking for LCVs that are lighter, with lower emissions and better fuel efficiency, qualities that the Citroën Berlingo range has in spades.  In particular, the Citroen Berlingo e-HDI Airdream models are equipped with e-HDi micro-hybrid Stop & Start technology. For further fuel savings, all Berlingo vans are specified with Citroen’s unique Trafficmaster telematics package.  This further reduces urban fuel consumption and emissions by offering the fastest congestion avoidance routing direct to the driver.”

Citroen’s key addition to their Euro 5 Berlingo range is the new e-HDi Airdream models, with their efficient micro-hydrid drivetrain. This power unit provides a unique combination of environmental, economic and driver benefits.

Berlingo Airdream vans have Stop & Start with an advanced micro-hybrid starter/generator to restart the engine quickly and smoothly and incorporate regenerative braking to recover and store energy that would otherwise be lost.

Berlingo e-HDi vans are available with a choice of either a 5 speed manual transmission or Citroen’s advanced 6-speed automated manual transmission, which provides the benefit of two-pedal driving and a combined cycle fuel consumption of up to 60.1mpg and CO₂ emissions as low as 123g/km. Citroen Commercial Vehicles has finished another year of progress in their green credentials by the standardisation of their unique Trafficmaster smartnav across the range of Berlingo, Dispatch and Relay panel vans. This advanced telematics package offers productivity, major cost savings, safety and emission benefits, by reducing travelling time.

In addition the range-topping Nemo, Berlingo, Dispatch and Relay Enterprise models come with air-conditioning, rear parking sensors and Bluetooth to attract future van fleet drivers with their comprehensive standard options package, plus of course, their highly acclaimed fuel-efficient diesel engines. Trafficmaster Smartnav

Citroen is now offering Trafficmaster Smartnav and Trackstar (stolen vehicle package) as an option on all Nemo, Berlingo First and all other Combi and chassis variants at just £399+VAT, which is heavily subsidised and covers three years subscription to the service. The package is already standard on most Berlingo and all Dispatch and Relay panel vans.

Charles Peugeot, Head of Commercial Vehicles and Business Sector said,”Citroen fits Trafficmaster Smartnav satellite navigation as standard to more LCVs than any other manufacturer. The introduction of this heavily subsidised £399+VAT option now brings the availability of these benefits to the remainder of our LCV range”. Citroen customers can also fit Fleet Director at £19.99 +VAT per month which offers a real-time fleet management programme.

Citroen LCV vans

Citroen has supplied six new Citroen LCVs to Fitness First, the Poole headquartered health and fitness group. The order consists of one Dispatch dual fuel (petrol/lpg) van, one Berlingo dual fuel van and four Berlingo 1.6HDi 90hp XS vans, all supplied on 4-year maintenance contract hire.

The new Citroen vans will be used by Fitness First’s maintenance technicians who are based throughout the UK. All vans have been custom-racked to carry all the necessary tools and equipment to carry out the UK nationwide maintenance programme (swimming pools, buildings, gyms and running machines). These vans will be followed by further orders for Berlingo and Dispatch vans, to replace its Citroen 30-strong LCV fleet.

Citroen is adding new Enterprise versions of the Nemo, Berlingo, Dispatch and Relay to its LCV range from January 2010. The additional specification adds air-conditioning, Bluetooth and reverse parking sensors.

In addition you also get remote central locking, electric front windows, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors as vehicle standard options plus most models are equipped with Trafficmaster satellite navigation and Trackstar stolen vehicle tracking.

Romahome R25 motorhome

The Citroen Berlingo is unique in that it is the only small LCV range to feature a platform cab and an enhanced traction van, along with the widest choice of specialist vehicle conversions.

The Berlingo range includes the following factory produced models;

- Berlingo L1 van in 625kg or 850kg payload configurations.

- Berlingo L2 with a 750kg paylod.

- A choice of 1.6i 90hp petrol or 75 & 90hp 1.6 HDi diesel engines.

- X, LX and new Enterprise trim levels.

- A platform cab for any specialist bodywork conversion.

- A 5-seat Crew Van.

- An XTR+ enhanced-traction van.

Citroen also offers a variety of Ready to Run Berlingo specialist conversions for example glass-carriers, temperature controlled vans, a dual-fuel (petrol/LPG) van and the Romahome R25 motorhome.

Berlingo Crew Van

Citroen has won the Institute of Transport Management’s LCV of the year award with their Berlingo Crew Van. The judges were impressed by the flexibility of this light commercial van, with its innovative sliding/folding rear seat and bulkhead. This allows the van to be either used as a five seater (1,320mm long and 2.4cu.m) or a two-seater with an 1,805mm long, 3.35cu.m load compartment. Add to this the low CO2 emissions of this van and the package represents excellent value for money. 

Crew seats

The van also comes with Trafficmaster Smartnav and Trackstar stolen vehicle tracking system which is unique in the LCV sector. Road safety is important to any light commercial van operator and Citroen already offers Trafficmaster’s Smartnav satellite system in the Berlingo, Dispatch and Relay panel vans.

Under a new initiative with Trafficmaster, Citroen is now offering the Trafficmaster Fleet Director system at a subsidised rate of £19.99+ VAT per month. Fleet Director is a real-time fleet management programme that utilises Smartnav telematics to provide direct communication with drivers and to show their exact whereabouts. This is particularly of interest if a driver is working in a remote place allowing instant two-way communication.

The reporting available from Fleet Director also allows a van operator to improve road safety and help maintain their Duty of Care requirements.

With the impending launch of the new SMMT “Van Buyers Guide”, detailing light commercial Co2 emission outputs, Citroen is publicising how green its own LCV range is. Citroen was also the first manufacturer to offer its ultra clean particulate filter on its LCV range.

More van manufacturers will have to start publishing their Co2 figures, enabling customers to see how green their carbon footprint is. Whilst the figures are readily available for cars, vans are more difficult to find and the new SMMT initiative is welcomed.
