BMW set to recall 26,000 cars in UK amid braking issue scare
Friday, October 1st, 2010BMW is set to recall around 26,000 BMW models in the UK, as well as about 1,200 Rolls-Royces, due to a potential powered braking problem. The recall affects BMW 5 Series, BMW 6 Series and BMW 7 Series models powered by V8 and V12 engines, from 2010-2010 and some Rolls Royce Phantom cars from the 2003-2010 model years. This currently only affects larger petrol engine cars i.e. BMW 745i and not diesels.
The problem involves a leak which could affect the power braking system, potentially leading to a vacuum loss and a reduction in the power braking assistance. However mechanical braking is still available and a BMW spokesperson commented,”We are writing to all the owners involved asking them to arrange a service appointment. There have not been any accidents or injuries”. Press reports indicate BMW will recall around 350,000 vehicles worldwide as a precaution.
