Range Rover Evoque

Stuff Magazine has just voted the Range Rover Evoque as “Car of the Year” in the technology award ceremony held at the Globe Theatre in London. The Evoque fought off stiff competition from other cars like the Ford Focus, Ferrari FF, Renault Twizy, Nissan LEAF and Mini Coupe and was judged on technology, design and style.

The Range Rover Evoque scored top honours in the car of the year category for some of its innovative technology, including Terrain Response (providing all weather/all terrain capability) and Adaptive Dynamics with Magnaride (giving an ever compliant ride). Other technical features praised were the Dual Screen technology that permits the driver and passenger to see two different images on the same screen (at the same time) and the 825W Meridian audio system.

Will Findlater, Stuff Magazine Editor, said,”For combining the off-road capabilities of a Range Rover and leading technology with the desirability of a Blade Runner space car, the Range Rover Evoque just had to win it for us”. The Range Rover Evoque has been awarded the top motoring accolade at the 2011 Scottish Car of Year Awards, winning the overall title of ”Scottish Car of the Year”. The Range Rover Evoque first had to win its own category (SUV/Crossover), then beating off rivals from 11 other category winners in a final vote. The BMW X3 came in at second position in the SUV/Crossover category.

John Murdoch, President of the Association of Scottish Motor Writers, said,”One car stood out from all the others with its stylish good looks, sound packaging, fine driving dynamics and desirability and the Range Rover Evoque is a worthy winner of the Scottish Car of the Year title. With 18,000 advanced orders already in the bag it will provide job security for hundreds of people and generate huge exports for the British economy”.

Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage has been voted CarBuyer’s “Car of the Year” and also “Best 4×4″, by carbuyer.co.uk, which is the car buying website launched by Dennis Publishing. The Kia Sportage is available with a 1.6 and 2.0-litre petrol engines and 1.7 and 2.0-litre diesel units, with both two and four wheel drive options.

Ferrari 458 Italia

The stunning Ferrari 458 Italia has been awarded Car of the Year (in the Money No Bbject” category) by the Daily Telegraph’s Motoring supplement, beating a strong field of other supercars. Paul Hudson, Head of Motoring at the Daily Telegraph, said,”The 458 Italia wins because of the pure driving pleasure it delivers – to drivers of all abilities. The Ferrari 458 Italia may not be the fastest supercar around but on looks alone and the sound from its powerful engine it certainly deserves this award.

The Ferrari 458 Italia has already won Car magazine‘s “Performance Car of the Year”, Fifth Gear‘s “Fast Car of the Year” and Auto Express‘s “Performance Car of the Year” to name just a few of its other awards, since being unveiled in September 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Peugeot 5008

Peugeot has recorded strong sales in April as they approach their 200th anniversary this month. The UK car market was up by 11.5% increase in April, however Peugeot recorded an impressive 21.6%, with strongest sales for its HDI diesel models which were up 53.4%.

This growth was a combination of both retail and fleet customers and two models in particular, the Peugeot 3008 (What Car? Car of the Year 2010) and the Peugeot 5008 (What Car? MPV of the Year 2010), were strong sellers. Peugeot has sold nearly 6,000 models of the Peugeot 107, 207, 308, 3008 and 5008 in the first four months of this year.

VW Polo

The new Volkswagen Polo has beaten six other finalists in the 2010 Car of The Year Award to scoop the top prize. The result was announced by Autocars’ Steve Cropley, who is one of the six UK based jurors and one of 59 senior car motoring experts from 23 European countries who make up the COTY jury.

The top 5 results are as follows;

1- Volkswagen Polo – 347 points.

2- Toyota iQ – 337 points.

3- Opel/Vauxhall Astra- 221 points.

4- Skoda Yeti – 158 points.

5- Mercedes-Benz E-Class - 155 points.
