Ford Fiesta 1.6-litre TDCi ECOnectic

E.ON, one of the UK’s largest power and gas companies in the UK, has just ordered 340 Ford Fiesta 1.6-litre TDCi ECOnetic hatchbacks on contract hire over four years. The large vehicle fleet order was to replace the previous-generation Fiesta models which have been driven by their home energy consultants over the last three years.

The fuel-efficient new Fiesta 1.6-litre TDCi ECOnetic is an ideal replacement for their consultants, who advise customers nationwide on how to save money and be more energy efficient. The Ford Fiesta Edge ECOnetic emits only 95g/km of CO2 and also returns 78.5mpg on the combined fuel cycle, making them extremely cost-effective.

Standard specification for the Edge model includes air conditioning, electric/heated mirrors, front electric windows, MP3/CD player, ABS, multiple airbags, traction control, electronic stability programme, immobiliser and remote central locking and Ford contract hire prices are on the site now.

Fiesta’s lightweight bodyshell helps drive safety and fuel efficiencies

Ford Fiesta

At the heart of the new Ford Fiesta is a lightweight steel bodyshell that makes the car 40kg lighter than the model it replaces.

The advanced bodyshell design use special steels (for 55% of the car) to combine maximum strength with minimum weight. The strength of the structure is reflected in the Fiesta achieving a five-star Euro NCAP  safety rating.

Bernd Liesenfelder, Ford body engineering manager said, “Small cars like the Fiesta need to be as light as possible without sacrificing any strength in a crash. By using these advanced new steels, we have been able to give Fiesta owners the protection of a robust safety cell, combined with excellent fuel economy from a lightweight body”.

The frugal Fiesta ECOnetic model certainly backs up the Ford claims achieving a combined fuel consumption figure of 76.3 mpg and only producing 98g/km of CO2 emissions.

Focus ECOnetic

The new Ford Focus ECOnetic is set to be the most fuel-efficient Focus yet using new Ford technology. An optional Ford Auto-Start-Stop system is available on the car, however regardless of whether this is specified, the Focus ECOnetic has Smart Regenerative Charging and Low Tension FEAD (Front End Accessory Drive) technologies to improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions.

Power comes from Ford’s 109 PS 1.6-litre Duartoq TDCi engine with a standard coated Diesel Particulate Filter (cDPF) and with Auto-Start-Stop the car should achieve 99g/km and 74.2mpg. Without this the car achieves 104 g/km. The new Focus ECOnetic should be available from early 2010.
