Which? Car has released the details of the best and worst in car visibility and has found that driver’s views are becoming more restricted as manufacturers make cars safer and stronger.

Which? Car found that all-round visbility is worse than it was 15 years ago as car roof and door pillars have been strengthened and grown in size. According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), vehicle blind spots account for 1% of all accidents.

In the research Which? Car found that the Smart ForTwo Coupe comes out on top for driver’s vision with a Which? Car score of 64.8%, aided by its lack of a B Pillar which is usually found in most other cars. The Fiat 500 came second (58.7%) and the Citroen C3 Picasso (58.2%) was third.

At the bottom of the list was a variety of convertibles such as the Porsche Boxster (31.4%), BMW Z4 (38.7%) and Lexus IS 250C (39.4%). However obviously their view improves considerably once the roof is down.

Fiat has updated the Fiat 500 with a powerful new 1.3-litre 16-valve MultiJet diesel engine, with 95bhp now on tap. The car also incorporates eco:Drive and Start&Stop technology, improving the combined mpg to 72.4 (was 67.3 in the previous model) and CO2 emissions are also down to 104g/km (from 110g/km). The car accelerates from 0-62mph in 10.7 seconds (was 12.5) and now has a top speed of 112mph (from 103 mph) offering greater driving flexibility.

Andrew Humberstone, managing director Fiat Automobiles UK Ltd said,”This remarkable new diesel engine will add even greater excitement to the fantastic 500 range.
