The next generation Ford Focus ECOnetic has been unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show and should be available in early 2010. The new five-door version of the car will be available with Ford Auto-Start-Stop, Smart Regenerative Charging, Ford Eco Mode and Low Tension FEAD (Front End Accessory Drive) which all work towards a CO2 emissions rating of only 99g/km and 74.2 mpg.

Volkswagen has produced the fastest ever accelerating Golf to date with the launch of the new Golf R, which has been unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Golf R is equipped with a 2.0-litre TSI four-cylinder engine developing 270PS and comes in four-wheel drive.

This car is more powerful and economical than the 3.2-litre V6 found in the Golf R32 and reaches 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds. Coupled to the DSG automatic gearbox (and when the top speed is limited to 155mph) this figures falls to 5.5 seconds. The car also returns 33.2 mph on the combined fuel cycle and emissions fall from 257g/km to 199g/km.

The new Golf R looks different to the conventional GTI as it is fitted with new front and rear bumpers complete with LED lights at the front and at the back a gloss black diffuser houses the twin exhausts.

The car also gets a new black grille and wing mirrors and comes as standard with 18-inch five spoke alloy wheeels.

Inside the Golf R gets “R” kick plates and new seats finsihed off in Alcantara contrasted with black mesh cloth. The car should be launched in the UK in December and prices and full vehicle specifications will be launched shortly.

A remarkable diesel electric hybrid concept car, the new Volkswagen L1 Concept, has been unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Built from aluminium and carbon fibre and weighing only 360 kg, this new concept car returns 189mpg on the combined cycle and emits only 39g/km of CO2 emissions.

The L1 can seat two people in tandem and you enter through a side hinging, electrically operated canopy which maximises the aerodynamic efficiency of the vehicle.  Powered by a tiny 800 cc two-cylinder common rail, direct TDI engine, the car reaches 0-62 mph in 14.3 seconds and onto a top speed of 99mph. The car only has a 10-litre tank but this still provides a range of 416 miles.

Under normal conditions the 14PS electric motor is inactive and only engages when additional acceleration is. If required the electric motor can take over from the diesel engine for short distances.

SEAT launches new low CO2 Ecomotive versions to their range

SEAT will be launching next week, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, low CO2 versions of the Altea, Altea XL and Leon cars. All three new models feature significant improvements to offer better fuel consumption and to reduce harmful emissions.

The three newcomers feature the latest 105PS 1.6-litre TDI CR engine which incorporates a DPF particulate filter as well as cutting edge common rail diesel technology as standard.

Both versions of the Altea offer 119g/km Co2 emissions while the Leon comes in at 99g/km – a significant improvement on the old model.

Other features in the cars include Auto Start/Stop technology, energy recuperation, modifications to the five-speed gearbox, featuring a handy gear indicator device, which recommends the best gear to be driving in. The trio of SEAT Ecomotive models will be available in early 2010 however car leasing prices on other SEAT models are available now.

Volvo is launching a new C30 SportsCoupe which will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor show later this month. The front of the bonnet has had a complete re-design giving the new car a radical appearance, with body panel changes to the wings and bonnet giving it a really distinctive look.

In the grille, the new car has a larger iron mark, as seen in the the rest of the Volvo range and the air intake has also been enlarged, which resembles the XC60. New exterior features include an Orange Flame Metallic colour, visible tailpipes in the T5 and D5 models plus two new wheel options.

A new accessory styling kit can also be ordered which includes foglamp decor, front skidplate, side scuff plates and a rear skid plate with an aluminium look.

Inside a new range of interior colours is also being offered with Espresso/Blond consisting of a dark brown upper section and a blond fresh shade on the lower door sides, being one. The new also car offers a wide variety of engines including the new 1.6D DRIVe with Start/Stop technology.

Peugeot confirms launch of new electric vehicle in 2010

Peugeot is introducing a new car called the i0n ” zero- emissions” electric vehicle. This new car has been developed in conjunction with Mitsubishi Motor Company (MMC).

The i0n will have a range of 80 miles due to the use of lithium-ion batteries and will have four doors and four seats making it ideal for busy congested city centres. Top speed is 80mph and the car develops 64bhp.

The batteries can be re-charged in only six hours using a conventional mains power or recharged to 80% within thirty minutes, using the fast charging system. Peugeot will be showing the car at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Reva launches two new M1 classified electric cars at Frankfurt

Reva, the brand of the Bangalore based Reva Electric Car Company, is launching two new electric cars at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month. The REVA NXR is a four-seat three door family hatchback which will be suitable for urban driving with production commencing at the beginning of 2010. The showcar for the show will be the REVA NXG, a two seater sports car with a targa roof.

REVA’s new website, Revalglobal.com will also be launched at the show, where customers can register on the priority list for new cars, on-line. REVA currently has over 3,000 EVs on the road and the cars are being tested in over 24 countries worldwide.

All-new Ford C-MAX is being launched at Frankfurt Motor Show

Ford is launching the all-new C-MAX at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month. The new car takes its design cues from the stunning iosis MAX concept car which was unveiled earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show.

The new car has a much more dynamic passenger look, with a “coupe-like” sweeping roofline complimenting the usual Ford C-MAX hallmarks of comfort, space and practicality.

The new car will come with an all-new Ford EcoBoost direct injection petrol engine plus other new features like semi -automatic parallel parking and a blind spot detection system. The car is expected to be launched in the UK in the scond half of 2010.

Lotus is launching a new model called the Elise Club Racer at the Frankfurt Motor Show later this month. The car is based on the 134bhp Elise S and introduces new and exclusive colour schemes, bespoked design interior and lightweight components.

This exciting new sports car uses four of the classic colour schemes used by Lotus in the 1960s (Elite Yellow, Carbon Grey, Sky Blue and Old English White) and has combined them with a new Club Racer interior design. The interior features an anthracite anodised gear knob and handbrake sleeve, the Club Racer (CR) logo hand embroidered on the seat headreats and aluminium flooring in the driver’s and passenger’s footwell.

The car reaches 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds, has a CO2 rating of 179g/km and a combined fuel consumption of 37.2mpg. Car leasing prices on the rest of the Lotus range are available off the site with this new model coming on shortly.

Volvo is launching a new Volvo C70 coupe/convertible at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The original car was launched in early 2006 and broke new ground at the time, as the world’s first four seater with a retractable hard top.

The new car has been updated with a fresh new design both inside and out and retains the three piece retractable roof which opens in just 30 seconds.

The nose of the new car has a more distinct wedge shape with new pronounced headlamps and updated fog lights adding to the inviting “V” shape. From the rear the high-tech LED lamps, as found on the XC60, are now added.

Inside the car has a more luxurious feel with new, softer leather upholstery and a re-designed instrument panel. Four engines will be available when launched and the following data is provisional and shows information for manual versions only, with the fuel data for combined mpg consumption.
