Subaru Impreza AWD tops MSN Cars handling test at Wet Grip facility

MSN Cars handling challenge tests four hatchbacks on Wet Grip facility

Subaru Impreza AWD

The Subaru AWD Impreza is the hatchback to be driving in if bad weathers strikes, according to MSN Cars. They took four rival hatchbacks to the Wet Grip facility at Rockingham Raceway to see which model was the safest to drive on slippery and hazardous roads.

The other models tested were the BMW 1 Series (rear-wheel drive), Honda Civic (front-wheel drive) and Volkswagen Golf (front-wheel drive). There were three separate tests undertaken at the Wet Grip facility:

  1. A simulated skid recovery from 30mph
  2. Wet slalom
  3. Standing start on polished surface

The standing start test proved that the Impreza’s AWD system coped well, with the Impreza completing the course three seconds faster than the Golf and Civic and six seconds ahead of the BMW 1 Series.

MSN Cars commented on the results as follows; “This is a car you could drive through the middle of a snow blizzard and emerge out the other side. And it doesn’t even have fancy traction or stability control like the other cars here, so it relies on the mechanical grip inherent with the AWD system. It held onto the road well and the All-Wheel-Drive did the job from an icy standing-start, as well as the other test situations. Best performer on the day on the skid pan”.

Subaru Impreza business contract hire leasing prices are on the site now.

Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden, two of Honda’s Racing Team drivers, have visited Honda’s UK factory at Swindon and were given a tour. This is ahead of the BTCC rounds at Brands Hatch taking place this weekend and gives them a chance to see how the Honda Civic is actually made.

Matt Neal said,”I was blown away by the size of the site and the complexity of all the processes. It was actually a very surreal and calm atmosphere, like nothing you have ever seen before, even though I have worked all my life in manufacturing”.

Thinking about car leasing – what about vehicle availability?

You have spent hours looking at different car leasing websites and finally chosen the car you want and the company you want to deal with. But is the car of your choice available now, or is it going to be a pipeline vehicle or full factory order?

You would think there would be plenty of vehicles sitting at dealerships, however the manufacturers have been cutting back on vehicle production due to the fall in demand as has been widely reported. The availability of certain models will always vary depending on your choice of car, colour and specification and your options fall into three categories:

Audi A3 Sportback

Audi A3 Sportback

1) Vehicles that are in stock at the dealer

There will always be some vehicles that are in stock (or “physical” as it sometimes called) for you to choose from. They may not be your exact specification if you want a car that is packed full of accessories but if you can be flexible you may find a car now.

2) Your second option is “pipeline” vehicles

Pipeline vehicles are cars that are already in production and work has started at the factory to build the model or it is scheduled to be built. These will normally be available to see on the manufacturer systems that our leasing partners have access to. The vehicle dealerships, who our contract hire leasing partners buy their cars from, will be able to conduct a search (or ”pre-locate”) for your model. However, again if your choice is simple i.e. “I want a Mini diesel in Black or Blue” then you should be able to find a vehicle quite quickly.

3) Your last option is a factory order

Factory order lead times vary continuously as manufacturers change production schedules due to demand. If a model is particularly popular, a manufacturer may switch production to cope with the demand. However there are usually guidelines that our leasing partners can provide you on how long you will have to wait.

Factory order lead time, when quoted, is usually the time to build your vehicle to the exact colour of your choice and specification. However don’t forget that the lead time quoted is from the date the factory receives the order from the dealer and if the vehicle is built overseas, it has to be shipped to the UK and then prepared for delivery to you, which can add further delay.

So if you are thinking of leasing your next BMW, Audi, Honda, Mercedes or whatever vehicle, the best course of action is to order your vehicle earlier than you think to avoid disappointment. In order to help you with current vehicle availability, the following data is the current state of play for some of the most popular models on the site. The information has been kindly supplied to Comparecontracthire.com by Inchcape Retail, a large dealership group, is intended to be a guide and may be subject to change at any time.

Nissan Qashqai scores highly in J D Power Satisfaction Survey

Qashqai is 11th

Qashqai is 11th

Nissan’s compact Crossover, the Qashqai, has been rated 11th overall in the J.D. Power/WhatCar? 2009 UK Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Survey of 101 models. This is the first time it has appeared in the survey results.

The Sunderland built Qashai scored 81.4% and was rated third in the SUV category scoring highly for low ownership costs, visibility and design. The Nissan Note also did well scoring 80.1% and was in 29th position overall. Qashqai scored higher than all its traditional C-segment competitors including the VW Golf, Audi A3, Ford Focus, Mazda3, Vauxhall Astra, Honda Civic and Renault Megane.

Jim Oliver, Nissan Manufacturing UK’s Director of Quality Assurance, said “For Qashqai to be ranked 11th overall in its first appearance in the J.D Power WhatCar? 2009 UK Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Survey is the result of Nissan’s long-term global commitment to delivering outstanding levels of quality, not just in terms of engineering but in customer service too. Quality remains a key priority for Nissan worldwide and this kind of independent recognition from our customers is a testament to the dedication of Nissan’s world-class workforce in constantly striving to raise the bar in terms of quality”.
