Jaguar is set to star at Goodwood Revival – September 16th to 18th

Jaguar is geared up for its appearance at the Goodwood Revival, which takes place this month between the 16th and 18th September. There is going to be a very special 45-minute Fordwater Trophy race made up of a grid of iconic E-types including some rare lightweight models built between 1961 and 1966.

In addition to the E-types, Jaguar will have other models on show that also chart the histrory of the brand including the SS100, the XK120 and XK140, plus plenty of the E-type which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Last year over 134,000 people attended the Goodwood Revival over the three days and it’s not just vintage cars on show, with vintage aircraft and motorcycles also in abundance,

The Jaguar E-Type is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and has just been voted the UK’s favourite sports car by race-goers and classic car fans. The online poll of almost 3,000 visitors was run by the organisers of the Silverstone Classic, which is the world’s largest classic motorsport festival. This year the event will be taking place over the famous Northampton circuit between the 22-24 July.

The organisers are hoping to set a world record of 1,000 road-going examples of the E-Type parading around the circuit, and more than 120 car clubs will be displaying over 7,000 classic cars from ACs to Zagatos. There are plenty of other things to keep you busy from free live concerts (Suzi Quattro, 10cc and Wishbone), period fun fair, go karting, lawnmover racing, aerobatic displays to name just a few and tickets are available on the hotline on 0871 231 0849 or via the website @ www.SilverstoneClassic.com

Jaguar is celebrating the 50th anniversary of their legendary E-Type supercar with a series of high-profile events throughout the year. The first event in the calendar is the Geneva Motor Show, followed by the Goodwood Revival and Festival of Speed, the Pebble Beach Concours, the Nurburgring Old Timer Grand Prix plus plenty more other Jaguar hosted events worldwide.

50th anniversary of the E-Type

The original E-Type was presented to the press in 1961 and even Enzo Ferrari admitted it was”the most beautiful car in the world”. At launch the E-Type cost £2,256 15s including purchase tax and optional wire wheels, which is around £38,000 in today’s money.

The E-Type stayed in production for around 14 years with more than 70,000 units being sold and was driven by a host of famous stars including George Best, Brigitte Bardot, Tony Curtis and Steve McQueen.

The E-Type had a straight-six engine and in 3.8-litre form produced 265bhp reaching 150mph making it one of the fastest cars in production in the 1960s. Jaguar Design Director, Ian Callum, said,”Here was a car that encapsulated the spirit of the revolutionary era it came to symbolise.The E-Type is a design that even today continues to inform the work we do in styling the Jaguars of the future”. In celebrating the presentation of the stunning C-X75 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Jaguar has launched a new Jaguar 75 iPad app which is available to download from the iTunes store by searching for “Jaguar 75 HD”.

There is some newly commissioned photography of some famous Jaguar cars, such as the C and D-Type racers, the MK11 and of course the elegant E-Type, plus heritage images, archive video and various stories about the men behind the famous marque. The new C-X75 is the fastest and possibly the most beautiful Jaguar car ever built and best of all it is a 205mph four-wheel drive hybrid.

This year’s Race Retro is being held at Stoneleigh Park between the 12th and the 14th March and promises to offer car lovers of historic motor sport the chance to get up close to some great motoring icons.

Dennis Welch will be there with his record-breaking Austin-Healey 100, which last year achieved a top speed of  154mph at the industy test track at Millbrook. Other cars on show include a 1964 Dodge Dart, 1962 Jaguar E-Type, a Macon Formula Ford Single, a 1964 Merlyn sports racer and a 1972 Royale RP11 Formula 3 single seater just to name a few.
