Wednesday, June 1st, 2011Paul Quinn, an avid Manchester United fan, stopped off on route to the Champions League Final to buy a personalised registration plate ,UTD 80Y, for £12,900.
Mr Quinn owns the Town Hall Hotel in Eccles, Manchester and admitted that he would have paid up to £40,000 for the plate if he had to. He said,”I can’t believe it, it’s a perfect plate. I have another UTD registration, but this is the tops”.
The most expensive plate sold by the DVLA during the spring auction was 888 A which was sold to a mystery bidder, a businessman in the north of England, for £52,000. If you have ever wondered whether you can fit a personalised plate to a leased car you are able to do this, but you need permission from the leasing company first.
There are also several rules regarding how the plate must be displayed on your car or van and you can find the rules at the “Got a Question? section at http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/
