The MX-5 world record was held in Essen in Germany

Mazda MX-5

Mazda has entered the Guinness Book of World Records by forming the longest continuous MX-5 parade, using 459 officially recognised vehicles, in the grounds of UNESCO Zollverein World Heritage site in Essen. This broke the previous world  record set in New Zealand by 249 vehicles.

Cars from 17 countries took part in the world record attempt with one car coming from Russia and the oldest MX-5 was over 21 years old and came from Prague. Several other awards were handed out on the day and Mazda also donated 3,000 Euros to SOS Children’s Villages.

Jeff Guyton, President and CEO Mazda Motor Europe said,”The excitement leading up to this event was amazing. Over 600 Mazda MX-5 owners applied to take part, so many that we didn’t have room for them all because of technical reasons. The event, the parade, the many visitors – Mazda showed today why it’s still the world’s best selling roadster”. Mazda business car leasing on the MX-5 range can also be quoted on the site now.

Mazda3 2.0 Sport introduces “i-stop” technology

Mazda3 2.0 Sport

Mazda3 2.0 Sport

The all-new Mazda3 2.0-litre Sport has added new fuel stretching “i-stop” (Smart Idling Stop System) technology which pauses the engine so it is on standby for a rapid re-start (using combustion energy) in only 0.35 seconds. Two models of the Mazda3 2.0 Sport are available in either hatchback or saloon taking the total Mazda3 range to twenty models.

The 2.0 MZR DISI petrol engine produces 151ps output at 6,200rpm and achieves a 0-62mph time of 10.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 128/132mph (hatchback/saloon). The car comes with a six speed manual transmission and comes in nicely at 159g/km CO2, just under the new 160g/km tax threshold. Combined fuel economy is improved to 41.5mpg.

The flowing roof gives the Mazda3 2.0 Sport saloon an elegant coupe-like personality and the car has a confident road presence. Add to this a new MacPherson front and multi-link rear suspension system, speed sensitive electro hydraulic power steering, DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), traction control (TCS) and front, side and curtain bags as standard and you certainly have a robust and safe package as well.

Peter Allibon, Mazda Fleet and Remarketing Director said “The all-new Mazda3 2.0 Sport with our exciting “i-stop” technology uniquely delivers both performance and costs savings to fleets, company car and individual drivers. In recent times, a 2.0 Sport model may not have been the obvious first choice for a city bound company car driver. However the introduction of our highly efficient “i-stop” technology means that our latest model may change all that”. Mazda car leasing prices on all models are available now.

The MZR 2.0i (with five-speed manual) returns a combined fuel economy of 38.2, up from 36.7 mpg, with emissions dropping from 183g/km to 177 g/km. Mazda sponsors British Aerobatics Foundation Scholarship Scheme

Mazda supports aerobatics

Mazda UK has announced that it will sponsor the British Aerobatics (BAeF) Scholarship Scheme which is set up to coordinate the fundraising that assists talented young pilots in entering the highly skilled sport of aerobatics.

Each year the BAeF selects one pilot from five or six candidates who compete head-to-head in a fly-off consisting of a series of aerobatic manoeuvres. These are flown in two-seater high performance planes such as the Pitts and the Extra. The successful candidate is then rewarded with free aerobatic flying training for a five year programme, under the guidance of the UK’s top aerobatic trainers.

Mark Cameron, Mazda UK’s sales and marketing director said “Supporting the British Aerobatics (BAeF) Scholarship Scheme mirrors Mazda’s brand values: daring, engaging and fun. These attributes can be experienced when driving a Mazda or flying an aerobatic aircraft”.  Driving a Mazda can also be really easy with Mazda car leasing providing any model on contract hire, at an affordable price.

Welcoming the sponsorship is Alan Cassidy, Chairman of the British Aerobatic Association (BAeA), who added: “The British Aerobatic Association is proud to be associated with the Mazda brand and together we will be looking forward to training these budding young pilots for the Mazda National Championships at Conington in July, to battle it out for the National Champion title in their class”.
