Fiat launches new MultiAir petrol engine technology

Fiat, has just launched MultiAir a new breakthrough in petrol engine design. Already renowned for its work on advanced diesel technology with the MultiJet system, Fiat is confident this new engine will provide more power, use less fuel and emit less Co2 emissions by circa 10-25%.

The first new engine will be the 16-valve 1.4 litre family of naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines.

The first car to get the new engine will be the exciting new Alfa Romeo MiTo, at the end of 2009.

Alfa MiTo GTA Concept

Alfa will show their new performance concept, the Alfa MiTo GTA, at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2009.

GTA or Gran Turismo Alleggerito is the Italian concept that Alfa has used on previous models and aims to achieve the best in power to weight ratio. Plenty of work has gone into lowering the centre of gravity with many of the parts made in carbon-fibre to ensure the car is as light as possible.

The MiTo GTA has a new exciting turbo charged petrol engine offering 240 bhp from a 1742 cc engine. Coupled with an exciting high performance style and look this remarkable car continues in the spirit of the famous GTA signature.

Alfa Romeo has reported that the new MiTo is now on sale. There are three versions available namely Turismo, Lusso and Veloce with a choice from five engine variations, three petrol and two diesels.

The new MiTo goes into direct competition in a sector including the Mini so it will have tough competition. However with its attractive innovative styling it delivers head turning good looks so its bound to give the Mini a “run for its money”.

The turbo charged 1.4 Lusso hits 0-62 mpg in 8.4 seconds so it delivers impressive acceleration if required. However it also has a high safety accreditation and has been awarded a 5 star Euro NCAP safety rating.
