The Nissan Juke has just been voted Continental Irish Car of the Year 2011 by the Irish Motoring Writers association. The award was based on awarding points on a wide range of criteria ranging from innovation and safety, to space, comfort, build quality, driving quality and value for money.

Paddy Murphy, from awards sponsor, Continental Tyres, said,”The Irish motoring writers have selected an exciting model and no doubt the 2011 Irish Car of the Year accolade will provide a huge boost to the popularity of the Nissan Juke in the Irish market, particularly in the context of the current economic environment.

There were five car awards made by the panel as follows;

1. Continental Irish Small Car of the Year- Nissan Juke
2. Continental Irish Compact Family Car of the Year – Skoda Yeti
3. Continental Irish Family Car of the Year – Peugeot 5008
4. Continental Irish Executive/ Luxury Car of the Year- BMW 5 Series
5. Continental Irish Performance Car of the Year- Peugeot RCZ.

Diesel Car Magazine has announced the winners of its annual car of the year awards 2010 with the Peugeot 5008 grabbing top spot as Car of the year 2010.

Experts at Diesel Car Magazine put over 275 different diesel cars through their paces to come up with the winners in ten classes. There were also three new awards this year- best crossover, best sports car and best eco car. The Awards issue of Diesel Car Magazine goes on sale in newsagents from the 12th May and the list of winners is below.

Peugeot 308

The Peugeot ECO CUP was designed to see if four different standard Peugeot HDi diesel models, in the hands of everyday drivers, could better the official government fuel economy figures for the vehicles. The cars were driven over 600 miles of French and Swiss roads in heavy wintery conditions.

The average fuel consumption achieved by the winning drivers is as follows;

1. Peugeot 308 HDi FAP 110 – 89.95 mpg
2. Peugeot 207 HDi 90 - 87.10 mpg
3. Peugeot 5008  HDi FAP 110 – 84.77 mpg
4. Peugeot 3008 HDi FAP 110 – 79.10 mpg

Peugeot 5008

The new Peugeot 5008 compact MPV is set to be launched in January 2010 and has just been awarded top marks by Euro NCAP, the vehicle manufacturer safety testing organisation. The new Euro NCAP global rating combines the scores from all the different individual tests of Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Pedestrian Protection and the new area, Safety Assist.

Peugeot 5008

The new Peugeot 5008 has a number of safety features including three impact absorption structures at the front to protect you on front impact, six airbags as standard, an aluminium beam at the rear to absorb impact forces and the side “B” post has also been strengthened for added protection.
