Think of buying a 4X4? – read this article about depreciation

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Used Car Expert Magazine has revealed the top 5 best and worst performers in 4X4 vehicle depreciation over a three year period. Depreciation is the biggest cost to a motorist and when you buy your vehicle this is something you may not really consider.

That is why contract hire is such an attractive option as the risk on depreciation is with the leasing company, not you. This is also why a car that costs more to buy may actually have a lower rental on contract hire.

Here are the findings from Used Car Expert:

FUEL DUTY RISE OF 2P PER LITRE ADDS £120 TO MOTORING COSTS

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

The Government has pressed ahead with the planned 2p a litre rise in fuel duty from today, despite intense pressure from motoring groups. The further rise in oil prices looks set to push this up by 5p in total- putting an extra £120 a year on on fuel costs, for the average two-car family. This is the third rise in fuel duty in nine months, following increases in April and December.

RAC motoring strategist, Adrian Tink said,”This third fuel duty hike is unacceptable. Since the start of 2009, motorists have seen a 23 per cent rise in pump prices, meaning an extra £11 per tank for the average car”. Mr Tink also pointed out that VAT is set to rise back to 17.5%, on the 1st January 2010 and there is a further fuel duty rise due, in April 2010.

To ensure you get the best prices for your money don’t forget the website www.petrolprices.com records the cheapest prices for fuel in your location. It is also worth considering the combined miles per gallon consumption, when choosing your next car or van.

The MPG shopper at Comparecontracthire.com allows you to select the range of combined MPG fuel consumption you would like to achieve and choose the manufacturers whose vehicles you would like to see displayed. You can easily change the MPG ranges on the side menu bar if you don’t find a Bentley doing 70mpg!. And by choosing business or personal car hire you get to see the latest car leasing prices displayed as well.

Combined MPG is the figure presented for the Urban Cycle and Extra- Urban cycle together. It is an average of these two tests weighted by the distance covered in each.

Compare apples with apples

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Comparecontracthire.com advises small businesses to ensure they are comparing like for like rentals, when comparing contract hire prices from several suppliers.

Sometimes a headline contract hire rental seems to be good to be true. If you are attracted to a headline rate that looks really attractive, make sure you are comparing “like with like”, if sourcing contract hire prices from several leasing suppliers. Here is a useful checklist from comparecontracthire.com;
  1.  Are you comparing the exact same model?  Look at the manufacturer recommended list price (basic price plus VAT) to make sure it is a current model year. – Non current models may be offered, with different specifications to the one you think you are ordering.
  2. What are the payment terms?  How many rentals do you have to put down and how many subsequent payments will you have to make?  - Bigger initial payments, followed by longer payment periods, will make the headline rental look low.
  3. Is there a document fee and if so how much is it?  Divide this fee by the total number of rental payments to see how much this adds to the monthly rate.
  4. How long is the contract? – Rentals will vary depending on the term and generally the longer the length of contract, the less expensive the rental becomes.
  5. What is the annual mileage allowance? – The smaller the allowance, the less your rental will be.  If you choose a lower contractual mileage, than your actual mileage, you will get an excess mileage bill when you send the vehicle back.
  6. What type of contract hire is being quoted i.e. is it with our without maintenance for example? – Make sure you know what is included in the contract and what is not.
  7. Finally are you looking at the rental with or without Vat? – Vat will be added to any contract hire rental and your ability to reclaim this depends on your own company status i.e. Vat registered or not?

If after running through this checklist one supplier stands out, you know you are comparing “apples with apples”.

Vauxhall Vectra provides a bargain for SME’s

Friday, February 27th, 2009

With the launch of the new Insignia, Vauxhall says goodbye to the Vectra model, with some amazing contract hire prices, reports comparecontracthire.com, the UK’s first contract hire price comparison site for SMEs.

The following non maintained contract hire rentals, are just some of the selection of great offers for SMEs. All rentals shown below are based over three years, at 10,000 miles per annum, on a 3 payment initial rental followed by subsequent 35 rentals and are exclusive of VAT.  Other terms will be available directly from the site quote engines. Please note that if you are VAT registered, only 50% of the VAT applied to each rental shown, can be claimed back.

As this is also a “run out model” you need to act fast, if one particular offer appeals to you. However,  Vauxhall Leasing will be able to look for alternative cars if your exact choice is not available.

- Vauxhall Vectra Estate 2.0T SRi (Sat Nav) 5 Door @ £236.14

- Vauxhall Vectra Diesel Estate 1.9 CDTi Exclusiv (120) 5 Door @ £207.99

- Vauxhall Vectra Hatchback 1.8i VVT Exclusiv 5 Door @ £191.99

Robert Wastell, founder of Comparecontracthire.com said ” There are clearly some great opportunities to drive a quality vehicle, with a proven track record, at prices that are really affordable. In the current economic climate, choosing the outgoing Vauxhall Vectra model, provides an excellent opportunity to save money, for any SME looking for their next vehicle”.

Robert went on to say ” The example prices shown are based on non maintenance contract hire. I would also recommend that SMEs look at prices including ”with maintenance” for added protection from future costs, which are all readily available off the site”.
