The Skoda Superb Estate Elegance 2.0-litre TDI DSG has just been voted the top car in the £25,000-£32,000 category at the 2012 Caravan Club Towcar of the Year Awards, a feat it achieved last year as well.

Rigorous testing of all the entrants took place at Millbrook proving ground where the judges assessed the vehicles based on towing ability as well as acceleration, braking and the ability to cope with demanding hill starts. The cars were also scored on their usability in terms of everyday caravanning.

London Paris 2011 cycling event

Skoda UK has just announced that it is sponsoring the London-Paris 2011 cycling event with a Skoda Superb chosen as the celebrity ride support car.

The 520km bike ride is one of the world’s most exciting cycle rides and combines both professional sportsmen and women,celebrities and industry leaders. The event provides five Speed Groups riding with a support team of 120 people plus Skoda has a long history of being associated with cycling, as it started out building bicycles back in 1895.

New Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage has been voted by Scotland’s top motoring writers, plus a selection of other people drawn from the motoring industry. In all there were 11 category winners with the excellent Skoda Superb being voted best Family car, the Peugeot 5008 winning the MPV award and the Jaguar XJ winning best Luxury car. The Suzuki Swift won best Small category, the Audi R8 Spyder won the Drop Top award and the Sporting category went to SEAT’s Leon Cupra R.

Kia took the SUV category for the Sportage as well as the overall award and John Murdoch, President of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, said,”We sampled some superb new cars during the past 12 months and our task of selecting the category winners was not an easy one. Skoda Superb

Skoda has launched  new ultra-efficient 1.6 TDI engine into the Skoda Superb range, replacing the 1.9 TDI PD unit. The 1.6 TDI CR 105bhp engine offers you lower CO2 emissions, 130g/km for the hatch and 133g/km for the estate, plus a combined mpg of 56.5 for the hatch and 54.3 for the estate.

Skoda Octavia Estate

Skoda picked up two honours at the Practical Caravan Towcar Awards 2010. The Skoda Superb Estate 2.0 TDI CR 170 SE was named best car in the 1575-1724kg class and the Octavia Estate 1.6 TDI CR GreenLine picked up the Green Award. Each car was tested by a panel of six judges for its towing ability, buying and owning costs, drive quality when not towing and practicality.

Of the Superb, Practical Caravan said,”The estate is simply huge. There are 633 litres with the seats upright and a huge 1865 litres if they are folded forward”. On the Octavia GreenLine they said, “One of the best (“green” cars) we’ve tested. Diesel Car Magazine has announced the winners of its annual car of the year awards 2010 with the Peugeot 5008 grabbing top spot as Car of the year 2010.

Experts at Diesel Car Magazine put over 275 different diesel cars through their paces to come up with the winners in ten classes. There were also three new awards this year- best crossover, best sports car and best eco car. The Awards issue of Diesel Car Magazine goes on sale in newsagents from the 12th May and the list of winners is below.

Skoda wins two more awards

Skoda has added two more trophies to their bulging awards cabinet by picking up the Most Improved Fleet Manufacturer and the Superb was voted Best Upper-Medium car at the Fleet News awards ceremony held at the Grosvenor Hotel in W1.
