Corsa Street Style Winner

Vauxhall was running The Corsa Street Style competition which showcased a selection of gallery images on Facebook, using a drawing application. The favourites then received votes by fans of the page and the 20 most voted for, were entered into the top prize draw.

Judges from Vauxhall and independent judges from the world of Graffitti and Street Art then chose the overall winner which was lucky Leigh Hoyte from Buckinghamshire, who won the top prize. Leigh’s winning artwork will now feature on a billboard in Old Street,London.

Leigh also picked up the keys to a brand new Vauxhall Corsa Limited Edition and commented,”I never thought I would be driving away with a new Vauxhall Corsa Limited Edition. I have always had a passion for art and design so I am glad it’s been recognised by some of the most amazing graffitti artists. It will be awesome to see my work displayed on a billboard on such a busy area in London”.

Corsa Street Style Facebook campaign

Vauxhall has launched a new Corsa Street Style Facebook campaign to support its new Corsa “Street-style” TV ads. Facebook fans can now vote for their favourite piece of artwork and the images with the most votes will then be judged  by Vauxhall and independent judges, with one lucky winner getting a new Vauxhall Corsa.

Each week a selection of the gallery images will be showcased on the site and the competition runs until May 3rd 2011, with voting allowed until May 10th 2011. If you want to paint and post a piece of street artwork, the website address is as follows.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has released the data on new car registrations for February 2011. The numbers fell less than expected due to strong demand from fleet customers, however overall the market dropped 7.7% to 63,424 units. Registrations over the first two months of 2011 were down by 10.2% to 192,235 units.

Fleet volumes recovered in February by 8.6% but private registrations continued to decline to 22,584, a fall of 26.7%. Demand for the mini and supermini segment cars also continued to fall, but registrations of executive, luxury saloon, sports cars and MPVs showed a double digit growth in the month. Diesel market share was 50% in the month, rising by 8.9% and the Volkswagen Golf was the best seller, followed by the Vauxhall Corsa (2nd) and Ford Focus (3rd).

Vauxhall Corsa

Vauxhall has released the details of a new Black & White Limited Edition of the Vauxhall Corsa hatchback, with a striking combination of glacier white bodywork, 17-inch twin-spoke alloy wheels plus a black sapphire roof. You can choose from the 1.2-litre 85PS VVT petrol engine (CO2 124g/km and combined mpg 53.3) or the 1.3-litre 75PS CDTi ecoFLEX (CO2 114g/km and combined mpg 65.7).

To complete the look of the car, the new Corsa has lowered suspension and a VXR body styling kit with front and rear lower spoilers, side skirts and a roof spolier. Corsa Pop Art TV Advert

The new Vauxhall Corsa TV campaign starts today and showcases the car through imagery of the Pop Art Movement. The advert shows static and moving shots, primary colours and the C’mons puppets with the “Run” Gnarls Barkley soundtrack playing in the background.

Hyundai i20

The Bill Plant Driving School has taken delivery of 60 Hyundai i20 cars with 500 more to follow, replacing the fleet of Vauxhall Corsas. The i20 has a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and offers ESP as standard, front seatbelt pretensioners, six airbags and seatbelt reminders.

Roy Danby of the School said “The i20 is an excellent, easy to drive car for our pupils and they give great feedback on it. It’s a pleasure to teach in and the peace of mind of the safety features reassures both pupil and teacher”.

The SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders) has reported that new car sales increased in July to 157,149, an increase of 2.4% – the first time in 15 months that an increase has been seen. This is a direct result of the car scrappage scheme which came into effect on the 18th May 2009, as registrations to private buyers were up by 33.4% in the month. Growth was also reported in the small car sectors with the Mini segment registrations more than trebling in July and super-mini rising by 15.7% to account for 37.5% of all registrations.

The 2.4% figure in July was a modest rise but it also shows car registrations are still fragile. The average for July over a period between 1999 and 2008, was 174,879 units so overall registrations are still down 10.1% below the ”July” average. The market is also still down by almost 550,000 units over the past 12 months.

Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive,said, “The impact of the car scrappage scheme is clear and we are encouraged by the positive impact it has had, increasing new car registrations for the first time since April 2008. Industry still faces a long road to recovery and we urge government to take action to sustain economic recovery through easing access to finance and credit and delivering the loan guarantees set out by the Automotive Assistance Programme”.

The Ford Fiesta has been the best selling car for the last nine months however Hyundai makes an entry into the top ten models for the first time at position nine.
