FALKEN, the Japanese tyre manufacturer, is launching a new all terrain tyre that provides high levels of refinement and stability on road.

The new tyre will be available from spring 2012 and the FALKEN Wildpeak WP/AT01 blends the operational performance of an off-road tyre whilst incorporating many of the construction and design features that are reserved for high performance road tyres.

Yukio Yoshida, FALKEN’s European corporate planning director, said,”The Wildpeak is designed to appeal to off road vehicle owners requiring a single tyre to provide a safe, refined ride on the road yet still provide performance in a range of off road conditions. This is the first time FALKEN has sold an all terrain tyre in Europe specifically developed to fulfill the stringent requirements for off-road and utility vehicles”.

The new Wildpeak all-terrain tyre is available in a large number of vehicle fitments from 15 to 18 inches with R, S, T and H speed ratings. If you run your 4X4 on a non-maintenance lease agreement, the cost of replacing tyres is your responsibility and FALKEN now offers another tyre option to choose from.

Volkswagen Amarok pick-ups

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has just demolished a 67 metre high steel chimney weighing approximately 140 tonnes as part of a demonstration to show off the pulling power of their new Volkswagen Amarok pick-up. The chimney was due for demolition anyway and EDS, the demolotion experts, worked with Volkswagen to complete the mammoth task.

Four 200 metre lengths of rope were tied to the top of the chimney and attached to the towbars of four standard VW Amarok pick-ups powered by the 2.0-litre TDI engine, that produces 163hp, and down the chimney came. Simon Elliott,Director, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said,”The new Amarok is packed with power and intelligence, and we wanted to achieve something extraordinary to demonstrate this for launch”.

The new Amarok is officially launched in dealer showrooms from the 9th May and Volkswagen commercial vehicle contract hire is on the site now.

The eagerly awaited new Volkswagen Amarok pick-up technical specifications have now been released plus the first Amarok contract hire leasing prices has just been loaded by one of our partners. The Amarok is powered by the new 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine that has the same power as larger units and also now breaks the 200g/km CO2 threshold.

There are five models available starting with the 2.0-litre 122 PS Startline specification offering 199g/km, with 163 PS Bi-Turbo models that emit 209g/km. All models come with a six-speed manual gearbox. The 122 PS engine takes you from 0-62mph in 13.7 seconds while the 163 PS takes just 11.1 seconds. Economy is good too with the 122 PS model returning 37.2 combined mpg and the 163 PS model, 35.8 mpg.

The Amarok with the selectable 4MOTION transmission has a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 3,170kg with unladen weights (ULW) ranging from 2,051 kg to 2,106 kg. Payloads range from 1,064 to 1,119 kg. The Highline 4MOTION permanent models are lighter however, offering a GVW of 2,820 kg, ULW of 2,070 kg and a reduced payload of 750 kg.  Volkswagen Amarok pick-up contract hire leasing prices are also on the site now and we expect our other partners to load their pricing shortly.

Volkswagen has picked up the International Pick-up Award 2011 for their new Volkswagen Amarok. The panel of judges represented 23 countries also votes for the International Van of the Year awards as well. The Amarok was praised by the judges for its “effortless off-road abilities”, while its capacity on-road was judged to be the best against all other competitors. The Amarok also impressed the judges inside with generous space for both front and rear passengers in the double-cab cabin.

The Amarok is set for launch in the UK in 2011 and boasts the largest load dimensions in its class with a load area of 2.52 square metres, a maximum payload capacity of 1,057kg and a towing limit of 2.8 tonnes. All models feature advanced technology and safety systems including EDL (Electronic Differential Lock), ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation), ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) with Hill Hold Assist, Hill Descent Control and off-road ABS. Although the Amarok is not out for another year you can register your interest in purchasing one of the first models via the Amarok website.

VW Amarok

Volkswagen has released the first official pictures of their new pick-up, the Amarok. The Amarok will be available as a four-door double cab version from launch with a single cab model due to follow in 2011.

This new pick-up promises to be tough, durable,comfortable and of course comes with the usual Volkswagen high standards of safety, fuel efficiency and innovative technology.

The Amarok has a generous payload of up to 1.15 tonnes and a maximum towing limit of 2.8 tonnes. Its 2.52 square metre cargo area has the largest dimensions in its class being 1,555 mm long and 1,620 mm wide.

The new Amarok will be available in rear-wheel drive and switchable or permanent 4MOTION four-wheel drive. It will be launched in South America first in early 2010 and should be out in the UK by September 2010.
