With new Benefit-in-Kind changes coming into effect in 2012, reducing the lowest band emissions threshold from 120g/km to 99g/km, Volvo has launched three new DRIVe car models which are bound to be of interest to company car drivers.

The C30, S40 and V50 DRIVe models emit just 99g/km of CO2 and from the 1st January 2011 will also qualify for exemption from the London Congestion Charge. James Shires, National Corporate Sales Operations Manager at Volvo Car UK, said,”Company car drivers making a decision about their next car now, need to consider these forthcoming BIK tax changes, or know that they could be potentially missing out financially over the life of the contract”

Polestar Volvo C30

The 400PS Volvo C30 Polestar PCO (Performance Concept Prototype) will be on display at the Gothenburg Motor Show between the 22nd-25th April.

The car was designed to evaluate what happens when a Championship Winning racing car team designs a car for modern day driving and aims to build on the driving characteristics of the standard Volvo C30. The car is powered by a 2.5-litre turbo engine with modified pistons and Haldex AWD.

Volvo C30 Concept Car

Polestar Performance is the team behind Volvo‘s championship-winning Swedish Touring Car Team and they have now developed a stunning new road car concept. The Volvo C30 400PS AWD Concept Car has been designed to show how race engineers, when given a free rein, can develop a road car rather than one for competition racing.

The Polestar upgrade is also available on the S80,V70, XC70, XC60 and outgoing S60 models and is available as a cost option currently priced at £640. The concept includes the 400PS engine, all-wheel drive and aerodynamics based on Polestar’s race data, with the first public apperance of the car at the Gothenburg Motor Show between the 22nd and 25th April.

Volvo XC60 R-DESIGN

Volvo Car UK has announced their partnership with Snowbombing 2010 which is billed as the “world’s biggest show on snow” and is taking place at Mayrhofen in Austria, between the 5th-10th April.

Volvo will showcase a range of models at the event including the sporty new C30 SportsCoupe, C70 coupe/convertible and a Volvo XC60 crossover in sports R-DESIGN. There will be plenty of artists at the Snowbombing week long music and snowsports festival, including Fatboy Slim, De La Soul, Editors, Doves and The Cuban Brothers. Volvo will also be giving away a Volvo C30 R-DESIGN to one lucky Snowbomber at the close of the event.

Volvo Cars is launching a new innovative online contest and is challenging people to “virtually” drive a Volvo C30 DRIVe around the world in 80 days by using their Facebook friends.

The winning team will win 15,000 Euros in the winning team’s name, which will be donated to a carbon offset project being run by “myclimate”. The contest will begin on the 16th November and ends on February the 5th 2010.

A Volvo C30 DRIVe has a combined fuel consumption of 74.3mpg which enables it to cover 825 virtual miles on one tank of fuel. Simply travel your 825 miles and “pass” the car onto a friend. You can access the competition via the Facebook Volvo page or directly via the contest page.

Volvo S60 Concept

Volvo is providing an insight into the driving characteristics of the Volvo S60 Concept with a PC based racing challenge called Volvo – The Game.  It is free to download from www.volvocars.co.uk/S60concept and features five of Volvo’s racing legends as well as the new car. This game was developed by Volvo with the SimBin Development Team, the award winning Swedish game studio.

The six cars in the game include the new Volvo S60 Concept, a racing Volvo C30, the previous S60, the Volvo 850 and a true classic, the Volvo 240 Turbo Group A. You can select your favourite Volvo and test your skills on the two tracks, the Gothenburg Eco Drive Arena in Sweden and at Chayka outside Kiev in the Ukraine.

You can either use the game with a steering wheel and pedals connected to your computer, via your PC’s keyboard or with a game pad. Skill level choices range from “novice” (with all the driver assistance technology you need like ABS), “semi-pro” and finally “pro” where there is no assistance whatsoever.

Volvo C30 DRIVe R-DESIGN

Volvo has just strengthened its DRIVe car range by combining the DRIVe technologies with the sports credentials of the R-DESIGN bodykit. This will extend to the C30, S40 and V50 R-DESIGN models. The new 1.6D car models all boast a CO2 figure of 119g/km and a combined mpg of 62.8mpg across all three models.

The R-DESIGN models feature a special DRIVe wind deflector and a R-DESIGN badge at the front, plus DRIVe badges on the rear to announce the green credentials. The bodykit includes front and rear spoilers, lower door trim and side skirts, 17-inch five spoke alloy wheels, as well as roof and lip spoilers. Inside the interior has upholstery in cream leather and off black Flex-Tec, R-DESIGN centre stack and blue instrument dials.
