![Contract hire helps you understand how much money you can save VOLVO XC60 DIESEL ESTATE D3 [163] DRIVe contract hire from £287.40+VAT](http://www.comparecontracthire.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/91a5c79533f6ccf80eabe5637bf57666.jpg)
Volvo XC60
Quite a bold statement, but to make the case in point let’s have a look at two different vehicles to show what we mean. We have chosen two popular crossover vehicles, each costing a different amount to buy outright.
- Volvo XC60 Diesel D3 163bhp DRIVe ES 5-door with Start Stop – List Price £26915
- Vauxhall Antara Diesel Estate 2.2 CDTi Exclusiv 5-door 2WD – List Price £18975
If you have spare cash you could probably walk into any dealership and negotiate a discount off the recommended manufacturer list price but this will not help you when you look at how much money your brand new vehicle will lose over time, or how much money you can save by looking at contract hire.
The difference in List Price for the two vehicles is nearly £8,000 and you might not believe it but the contract hire monthly rental on the same terms is near enough the same at £287.68 excluding VAT for the Vauxhall Antara and £287.40 excluding VAT for the Volvo XC60.
The two prices above are based on a two year contract, 6 rentals in advance, non-maintenance contract hire at 10,000 miles per annum. Please note these rentals may change at any time.
Why is the rental nearly the same when the cost difference is nearly £8,000 if you buy outright?
There are a number of factors but the main two are as follows.
- The Volvo XC60 has a better resale value in 2 years with 20,000 miles on the clock, than the Vauxhall Antara.
- The leasing company may have negotiated a better fleet discount for the Volvo XC60.
So before you buy a car, see what the contract hire rental is for your final vehicle choices, as you can protect yourself from vehicle depreciation and also drive a better car than you think.

Animal Detection safety system
Volvo is working on a new Animal Detection system which is based on their Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake technology. The current Volvo Pedestrian Detection system is available on the S60, V60, XC60, V70, XC70 and S80 car range and uses radar and camera technology.
In Sweden alone, more than 40,000 accidents a year are reported, where a collision has occurred with a wild animal and the development of this new Animal Detection system is in line with Volvo Car Corporation’s vision for 2020, which is nobody shall be seriously injured or killed in a new Volvo car.
The radar and camera technology notifies the driver if an animal is within range by an audible sound and if the driver does not react, the brakes are automatically applied. One of the biggest challenges that Volvo faced is teaching the system to recognise different animals and their engineers spent an evening at a safari park, digitally logging film sequences and behavioural patterns for animals such as moose, deer, etc. This data will be used to evaluate and develop the new system in due course.
Volvo has a reputation for producing extremely safe cars and if you are interested we have the full range available now on Volvo car leasing.

Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake
Volvo’s pioneering safety system, Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake, has won the Safety Award at the recent What Car? Awards. Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake uses a mixture of laser, radar and camera technology and recognises a human being above 80cm tall or a vehicle ahead and automatically brakes if it calculates an impending crash.
Initially you get an audible warning and flashing lights in the head-up display but if the driver does not respond the car automatically brakes with full force, just before the impending collision. The technology is also available with Volvo’s City Safety system which reacts if the vehicle in front is at a standstill, or moving in the same direction as one’s own car to prevent rear end impacts.
Originally launched on the new Volvo S60 it became available on the V60 sportswagon and is now available on the Volvo XC60. Volvo business contract hire is on the site now for all Volvo models.
