Vauxhall dominated February’s car sales last month with a total of 9,812 cars registered, led by strong sales of the Vauxhall Corsa which recorded sales of 2,617. The Astra was Vauxhall’s next best selling model, followed by the Insignia, Zafira and Meriva.

Vauxhall Corsa

Vauxhall has yet again topped Scottish car sales for it’s fifth successive year, with the Vauxhall Corsa the best-selling car in Scotland for the fourth year on the trot. In total Vauxhall sold 26,901 total sales, nearly 7,000 more than its nearest rival.

The Corsa also sold well with 10,660 units followed by the Astra at 8,384, while both the Insignia, Zafira and Meriva also performed well. In addition in 2011, Vauxhall will also launch a V8-powered VXR8 super-saloon, a new Zafira and possibly a new 3-door Astra plus the new Ampera Extended-Range Electric Vehicle debuts in Europe later this year as well.

ecoFLEX from Vauxhall

Vauxhall and Opel have joined forces to find Europe’s top eco-driver with a Vauxhall Ampera being awarded to the winning driver.

The competition kicks off on the 1st April when successful entrants can show off their fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly driving skills. Vauxhall is introducing new models across the range that substantially undercut the list pricing of current entry-level models in each car range. This offer benefits both private and company car users.

Five new Expression models (Corsa, New Astra, Astra Sport Hatch, Zafira and Astra Twin Top) plus the new ES models in the Insignia and Astra ranges, will now give a more attractive entry point for new Vauxhall drivers. For example the entry level Insignia ES replaces the current S model yet offers more equipment at a lower price, with standard 17-inch Structure wheels and a CD400 CD player with MP3 format. Vauxhall Astra

The Vauxhall/Opel Astra has been awarded the Golden Steering Wheel Award 2009 in Berlin in the compact class. This is the most prestigious award by Auto Bild magazines group and the voting took place from readers in 26 European countries.

The new Astra won by a comfortable margin, getting top marks in the engine, fuel consumption, chassis, braking, steering and driver assistance safety categories. The car was also voted number one by race drivers and technical experts with seven out of eight points. The last time Vauxhall won this award was with the Zafira.

Vauxhall Zafira ecoFLEX given the green light.

Vauxhall is launching an ecoFLEX version of the popular Zafira. The new compact MPV model comes with a “new to the range” advanced 1.7-litre diesel engine and emits just 139g/km CO2.

The new model has a combined MPG figure of 53.3 mpg which Vauxhall claims gives the MPV a range of 680 miles. The 1.7-litre engine powered Zafira achieves 0-60 mph in 12.6 seconds and has a top speed of 112mph. The Zafira also has Vauxhall’s clever Flex7 seating allowing the ecoFLEX to convert to a seven-seat people carrier in seconds.

Vauxhall, has for the second time in three months, become the leading brand for new UK car registrations. In February they recorded a total of 9372 vehicles according to the SMMT  (The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders).

The Corsa was the most popular with the Astra, Insignia and Zafira all featuring in the UK’s Top Ten best selling cars. The new Insignia, the 2009 European Car of the Year, is also proving popular with over 15,000 orders received already by Vauxhall and 1,247 were registered in February alone.

Vauxhall has reported they registered a total of 19,058 cars in December , only 5.3% down on last year. The total market, as reported by the SMMT, was down 21.2% in December so the smaller Vauxhall drop in registrations shows the strength in their product range.

During December, Vauxhall had four models in the UK’s top ten car registration chart namely the Corsa, Astra, Vectra and Zafira.

The SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders) reports new car registrations fell 36.8% in November to 100,333 units. The year to date volume is down 10.7% to 2,023,104 units. The private market was down 45.1% in the month – a particularly weak result.

However the diesel market share achieved a record high of 47% in November proving how popular diesel models now are. Paul Everitt, the SMMT chief executive said ” November has been another difficult month for the motor industry and whilst some consumers may have delayed their purchases to take advantage of the recent VAT reductions, overall demand continues to fall”.

The new Ford Fiesta was the UK’s best selling model in November. Year to date the top 10 best sellers are as follows.
