Eco-Safe driving is style of driving that will help improve
road safety, reduce the CO2 emissions you emit from your car and reduce your fuel consumption. If you adopt your driving style to some of the changes below you could also reduce your fuel bill.
Control of your vehicle
- When starting and moving off try to avoid revving your car or van.
- Use the accelerator smoothly and when appropriate take your foot off the accelerator and allow the momentum of the vehicle to take you forward.
- Avoid "pumping" the accelerator as this will use more fuel.
- It's is not always necessary to change up or down through each gear and you can try skipping gears. However as soon as conditions allow, use the highest possible gear without making the engine struggle and "run out of steam".
- Always make sure your speed is appropriate to the road, traffic and current weather conditions as inappropriate speed can affect fuel consumption and emissions.
Planning
- Try and identify hazards early and allow adequate time to react. This will result in smooth braking and acceleration and maintain space around your vehicle and drive calmly.
- If possible use engine braking when possible as when your foot is off the accelerator pedal the engine needs little, if any, fuel.
- When you are stuck in traffic or if you are waiting for someone, if you are likely to be waiting for a time then turn off your engine to save fuel and reduce CO2 emissions.
- Don't carry weight unnecessarily, for example a roof-rack/luggage box.
- Use your air-conditioning only when you need to.
- Consider sharing the vehicle with other passengers and avoid unnecessary short journeys.
Finally we have shown a small selection of Fiat cars on
Fiat contract hire below, as Fiat is one of Europe's lowest CO2 car manufacturers. Other makes and models are also on the main site.
